Bandipur, where the highway holds its breath

The Mysore road cuts straight through this forest, and at dusk the traffic simply stops for elephants. That is Bandipur in one image: a national park that never agreed to be separate from ordinary life.

Best time to visit March to May for sightings, October for green forest and empty jeeps.

What to expect The highway closes 9pm to 6am for wildlife. Plan your arrival around it, not against it.
